Muslims! Non-Muslims! Hipsters! Non-hipsters! ...Mipsterz! 

 

I would like to welcome you to the Mipsterz listserv, a space for us to share the coolest of the cool, the hippest of the hip, and the dopest of the dope.  The “Mipsterz” first began as a satirical, thought-generating jab at corporate culture and evolved into a limitless collective that empowers individuals to find coolness in themselves and share their God given gifts with all.  You see, hipster rule number 1: never self-identify as a hipster—namely, because these labels are a social constructed means of typecasting limitless beings.  But let’s be honest, (and this where the tongue-in-cheek ethos of Mipsterz enters) you are a hipster.      

 

As I am sure you already know, a mipster is someone at the forefront of the latest music, fashion, art, critical thought, food, imagination, creativity, and all forms of obscure everything.  A mipster is someone who seeks inspiration from the Islamic tradition of divine scriptures, volumes of knowledge, mystical poets, bold prophets, inspirational politicians, esoteric Imams, and our fellow human beings searching for transcendental states of consciousness.  A mipster is an ironic identity, one that serves more as a perpetual critique of oneself and of society.  A mipster has a social mind, and yearning for a more just order, a more inclusive community unbounded by stale categories, unwilling to plod blindly along in a world as obsessed with class as it is unmindful of its consequences. The mipster is a bold, yet humble mind, open to disparate ideas and firm enough in conviction to act, speak out and drop the hammer when the time is right. 

 

We hope to foster a sincere, loving, caring community who values you beyond the company logo on your business card. If you even have one. A network of Muslim hipsters who come and learn and grow together, and sometimes just kick back and chill for a while as we style out and let our amazing energy fill the world with awesome.

 

With that being said, WELCOME!  Invite whomever you want and post whatever you want.  We will feature a mipster music thread where we post the finest and dopest of hipster music. From time to time we will post articles and discussion topics to keep the knowledge fresh.  And of course, we will post only the most obscure elements from the Arts.
